GONE!
After 400
pounds of explosives took out the building's main supports, all that remains of
the Sands is more than 100,000 tons of rubble from the casino and the 21-story
hotel tower, which is scheduled to be removed in 5,000 truckloads for recycling
into road construction material.
The 21-story building
is being demolished to make way for a new, mega-casino that's expected to cost
between $1.5 and $2 billion. The as of yet unnamed casino is slated to open in
late 2011
